Attractions and Excursion Spots
Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark and a cultural center with an abundance of museums and galleries. The University city of Aarhus is also the home of 6 theatres, a concert hall, and a large congress centre. Every year in July there is a great Jazz Festival and in September “Aarhus Festival Week” – one of Scandinavia’s greatest cultural events.
Close to the Youth Hostel
Danhostel Aarhus situated in the middle of the forest, Riis Skov. From the highest slope you have a beautiful view of Aarhus bay. The forest has a good path system where you can follow two different paths. At the mouth of the forest you find a small ice cream stand. From the youth hostel you only have few meters to the beach Den Permanente which is an old fashion bath and one of the most popular beaches in the city.

With an AarhusCARD you get free admission to more than 20 museums, attractions and activities in and around Aarhus. Free transport by bus all over Aarhus and the Central Denmark Region.

From April until October you can use any one of the 450 city bikes in Aarhus free of charge 24 hours a day. You can find them dotted around the city in the 57 specially allocated bicycle stands.
Each bicycle has a coin slot (just like shopping trolleys in Danish supermarkets). Insert a 20-kroner coin in the slot and press the “key” into the other slot to unlock the lock and release the bike from the bicycle stand. You get your 20-kroner piece back again when you press the “key” back into the slot at any bicycle stand.
